People used to send postcards. Erie's postcards are especially interesting.
There was no internet...no television, and not even radio in many cases.
So people wrote to each other. The penny postcard was a popular way
to tell family and friends about exciting travels, and if everyone is doing "fine".

The history and beauty of Erie is wonderfully captured in the nearly 100 historic postcards that are being shared here.

A couple of years ago, my son told his teacher in Georgia, that he visited Erie, Pennsylvania (and Waldameer) with his family. His teacher brought him an old Erie postcard dating back to the 1930's and gave it to him. My son gave that card to me, and I became intrigued with these wonderful postcards that looked more like small paintings than postcards to me. From that point on, I've been hooked on old postcards and exploring the history of the town that was such a wonderful place for me to grow up.
Please enjoy the cards and participate in the discussion groups. Share your stories about the wondeful places shown here...and maybe even "donate" a picture of your postcards to share with others. This website is designed to be an interactive project. I hope you enjoy it!
